  3. 1. What is the difference between approaching reading for our real life and reading for the classroom?

-Reading for real life implies a kind of reading the students are likely to bump into in real life, reading that are not made for teaching purposes, as the word itself says, “real life”. In addition, approaching this reading means bringing to the classroom a lot out authentic materials such as realia, magazines, articles and so forth. On the other hand, approaching reading for the classroom means a set of reading tasks that involves previous preparation upon the materials to use in the classroom, in other words, tasks specially designed for teaching purposes.
    2. Give a brief definition and three examples of each one of the following types of authentic materials:
    1. Realia: Realia is all the material that can be utilized in the classroom, like: real objects such as cloth, fruits, books; real people: students, teachers, parents, special guests and real situations like buying things, writing to a friend, requesting letters and so on.
    2. Printed text: It´s all the printed texts that we can find so as to amuse ourselves, or implicitly learn from the printed text the new language. Texts such as: magazines, brochures, newspapers and vocabulary posters.
    3. Images: it´s all the visual material we can find in and out of the classroom, such as: photographs, charts, drawings, posters, boards, and comics.

    3. Even though most of our students have already learned to read in their native language already, why is it of such a great importance that we develop reading skills and literacy in the target language we are teaching?
-It is important because working on reading skills and literacy stress the raising of phonemic awareness in the students since the target language may not follow the same phonemic system as the mother tongue of the students and there may be problems to interpret and understand certain symbols in the target language. Moreover, it is important for it gives the opportunity to the teacher and students to set differences and similarities between their L1 and L2 in terms of writing and grammar features as well as linguistic.

    3. To develop reading skills as well as literacy in the target language is important because students will eventually need to be able to code and decode language in its written form. Many of the language is kept in pages and letters, hence students will need such skills in order to interact with the language. In addition, being bilingual not only implies the ability to speak in the second language, but also, being able to read and write it.
